Xtool AnyScan Android App, Insecure Update Mechanism, CVE-2025-63434 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How CVE-2025-63434 Works:

The Xtool AnyScan Android application incorporates an update mechanism that automatically checks for and installs new software packages from remote servers. When an update is triggered, the app sends a request to a predefined server to fetch metadata about available updates. Based on this metadata, it downloads a compressed update package believed to contain legitimate code or resources. This package is then extracted locally on the device. The critical flaw is that the application performs no cryptographic verification—such as signature checks, hash validation, or certificate authentication—on either the metadata or the downloaded package contents. An attacker capable of intercepting the network communication (e.g., via MITM) or compromising the update server can manipulate the metadata to point to a malicious server. The application blindly trusts this redirect and proceeds to download a crafted update package containing arbitrary executable code. After download, the package is extracted without integrity checks, and the contained code is executed within the app’s context. This process occurs without user warning or consent. Since the app typically runs with system permissions, the executed malicious code can achieve full device compromise, data exfiltration, or installation of persistent backdoors. The vulnerability exploits the trust placed in the update channel, turning a routine maintenance feature into a vector for remote code execution.
Platform: Xtool AnyScan Android
Version: Up to 4.40.40
Vulnerability: Insecure update mechanism
