Windows NET, Use After Free, CVE-2026-85790 (Moderate) -DC-Oct2026-3176

Listen to this Post

CVE-2026-85790 is a technical use-after-free security flaw discovered in the Microsoft.Native.Quic.MsQuic.Schannel component utilized across Microsoft .NET ecosystems on Windows platforms.
The vulnerability resides within the low-level QUIC protocol’s native-binary implementation, which manages network stream contexts and memory lifecycles.
Specifically, when asynchronous network operations or connection teardowns occur, memory buffers associated with QUIC sessions can be prematurely freed while active pointers still reference them.
If an attacker triggers specific race conditions during the QUIC handshake or data transfer phase, the application attempts to access the recycled memory block.
This memory corruption vector requires high attack complexity and network accessibility, yet it poses significant risks to application stability and data confidentiality.
Developers utilizing affected package versions are directly exposed to potential remote exploitation if mitigation steps are omitted.
Remediation mandates updating both the core .NET SDK/runtime environment and any explicit package references to the latest patched releases.
Furthermore, self-contained deployment packages must undergo full recompilation and redeployment to completely eliminate the vulnerable native binaries from production environments.
Failing to restart running applications or update dependent assemblies leaves the runtime susceptible to the memory management flaw until dependencies are fully synchronized with the vendor patches.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: Windows .NET
Version: Vulnerable package versions
Vulnerability: Use After Free
Severity: Moderate score
date: October 13 2026

Prediction: Patched right now

What Undercode Say:

dotnet --info
dotnet package update
dotnet restore
var assembly = typeof(System.Net.Quic.QuicConnection).Assembly;
Console.WriteLine(assembly.GetName().Version);

Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)

using System.Net.Quic;
using System.Net;
var listener = await QuicListener.ListenAsync(new QuicListenerOptions());

Protection:

Update the core .NET SDK and runtime to the latest version, update explicit package references in project files, recompile self-contained application deployments, and restart all dependent services to enforce native binary updates.

Impact:

High confidentiality risk through unauthorized memory exposure, alongside potential application crashes or denial of service resulting from memory corruption.
