This security vulnerability affects Unix named-mutex and shared-memory paths within Microsoft .NETCore.App.Runtime and System.Private.CoreLib. Because these runtime components handle IPC and synchronization mechanisms across Unix-like platforms via shared global directories, they are susceptible to manipulation. Local attackers can exploit insecure directory placements, symlink races, and unsafe permission changes during file creation. This flaw allows a malicious local user to truncate or overwrite critical files, widen directory permissions, or achieve full elevation of privileges across impacted multi-user systems.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: Linux and macOS
Version: 8.0 to 11.0
Vulnerability : Elevation of Privilege
Severity: High
date: 10/13/2026
Prediction: 10/13/2026
What Undercode Say:
Bash Commands and Codes
dotnet --info dotnet add package Microsoft.NETCore.App.Runtime.linux-x64 --version 8.0.32 dotnet build --self-contained true -r linux-x64
Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)
Local attackers target shared-memory and named-mutex initialization vectors by winning a symlink race condition inside globally writable temporary directories. By substituting expected synchronization files with symbolic links pointing to privileged files, the local user forces the .NET application runtime to truncate, overwrite, or misconfigure permissions on files owned by higher-privileged users, ultimately leading to local privilege escalation.
Protection: from this CVE
Update all affected .NET SDKs and runtimes to the patched versions (8.0.32, 9.0.21, 10.0.13, 11.0.0-rc.2 or later). Ensure that self-contained deployments are fully recompiled and redeployed, and verify installations using the dotnet CLI utility.
Impact
Allows local unauthorized users to execute arbitrary file truncation, overwrite protected system files, widen directory permissions, and achieve full local privilege escalation on affected Linux and macOS host environments.
