How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-26636 exploits a flaw in the Windows Kernel where processor optimization inadvertently removes or modifies security-critical code during execution. This allows an authenticated local attacker to bypass intended memory access restrictions, leading to unauthorized information disclosure. The vulnerability stems from improper handling of speculative execution paths, where certain security checks are omitted due to CPU optimizations. Attackers can leverage this to read privileged kernel memory, exposing sensitive data such as encryption keys or system credentials.
