How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-48800 is a vulnerability in Windows BitLocker that allows an attacker with physical access to bypass disk encryption protections. The flaw stems from improper validation of pre-boot authentication mechanisms, enabling unauthorized access via a maliciously crafted boot device. Attackers can exploit this by intercepting or modifying the BitLocker key exchange during system startup, leading to full decryption of the protected drive without legitimate credentials.
