How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-48003 is a vulnerability in Windows BitLocker that allows an attacker with physical access to bypass disk encryption protections. The flaw stems from improper validation during the pre-boot authentication phase, enabling an attacker to exploit a timing discrepancy or hardware-based fault injection to bypass authentication. This could allow unauthorized decryption of the protected drive without requiring valid credentials or recovery keys. The attack leverages weak cryptographic enforcement in the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) interaction, permitting an adversary to manipulate the boot process and gain access to encrypted data.
