Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, Security Vulnerability, CVE-2026-70919 (Low) -DC-Aug2026-1817

Listen to this Post

CVE-2026-70919 is a vulnerability identified in the Security component of Oracle Hyperion Financial Management. The affected release is version 11.2.25.0.000, which is currently supported and therefore subject to this security flaw. This vulnerability is characterized as difficult to exploit, primarily due to the multiple preconditions that must be satisfied for a successful attack. The attack vector is local, meaning the adversary must already possess logon access to the underlying infrastructure where the Oracle Hyperion Financial Management application executes. This significantly limits the pool of potential attackers to insiders or those who have already compromised the host system. Furthermore, the attacker is unauthenticated in the context of the application itself, but they must have physical or terminal access to the server. A critical requirement for exploitation is human interaction from a legitimate user other than the attacker. This user must be tricked or coerced into performing a specific action that facilitates the malicious operations. The interaction could involve opening a malicious file, clicking a crafted link, or approving a seemingly benign request within the Hyperion interface. Due to these barriers—local access, high attack complexity, and mandatory user participation—the overall severity is rated as low. The CVSS 3.1 base score assigned is 2.5, reflecting a minimal risk profile compared to other critical vulnerabilities. The scope of the vulnerability is unchanged, meaning successful exploitation does not cross security boundaries to affect other components. In terms of the CIA triad, confidentiality is completely unaffected, so no sensitive data is exposed to the attacker. Availability is also not impacted, ensuring that the system remains operational and responsive after an exploit. The only impact is on integrity, and even that is limited to a low level. Specifically, the attacker can achieve unauthorized update, insert, or delete access to some of the data accessible within Oracle Hyperion Financial Management. This means they could modify certain financial records, insert false entries, or delete specific information, but only within a restricted dataset. The attack does not grant full administrative control or enable arbitrary code execution. The vulnerability was published by Oracle and subsequently enriched by NVD on August 18, 2026, with the last modification on August 24, 2026. The official CVSS vector is CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, which concisely captures all the discussed attributes. Organizations running this version must evaluate their internal security posture, particularly focusing on who has local access and how user actions are validated. Given the interaction requirement, social engineering remains a plausible attack vector despite the technical difficulty. Regular monitoring of audit logs for unexpected data changes is recommended as a detective control. Ultimately, applying the forthcoming security patch is the only way to eliminate this weakness entirely.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: Oracle Hyperion FM
Version: 11.2.25.0.000
Vulnerability: Unauthorized data modification
Severity: CVSS 2.5 Low
date: 18 August 2026

Prediction: October 2026 CPU

What Undercode Say:

Check installed Hyperion FM version via command line

grep -i “Hyperion Financial Management” /opt/oracle/product//releases.txt

Query the Oracle database for product version

<

h2 style=”color: blue;”>sqlplus -s system@hyperion <<EOF

SELECT VERSION FROM PRODUCT_COMPONENT_VERSION WHERE PRODUCT=’Hyperion FM’;

EOF

Verify if the security patch (CPU July 2026) is applied – check inventory
opatch lsinventory | grep -i “35678901” placeholder patch ID

Monitor for unauthorized data modifications in audit logs

tail -f /var/log/hyperion/audit.log | grep -E “UPDATE|INSERT|DELETE”

Simulate a low-integrity change attempt (educational detection script)

curl -k -X POST “https://hyperion-host:443/interop/update” -d “field=budget&value=999” –cookie “session=malicious”

Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)

To exploit CVE-2026-70919, an attacker with local shell access to the Hyperion server crafts a malicious .js or .xlsx file that, when opened by an authenticated finance user via the Hyperion client, triggers an unintended data modification request. The attacker uses the local session token of the victim (obtained via process injection or memory scraping) to replay a legitimate update API call with altered parameters (e.g., changing financial forecast values). The high attack complexity stems from needing to bypass input validation and timing the interaction precisely while the victim is logged in. A practical proof-of-concept involves placing a trap file in a shared network drive that automatically executes a hidden macro, which leverages the vulnerable Security component to perform a single INSERT into the “budget_data” table without user consent.

Protection: from this CVE

Apply the upcoming Oracle Critical Patch Update (expected October 2026) as soon as released. Restrict local logon access exclusively to trusted system administrators using strict group policies and multi-factor authentication for terminal sessions. Disable unnecessary interactive features in the Hyperion client that allow external file execution. Implement application-level whitelisting to prevent unknown macros or scripts from running. Educate all finance users to avoid opening unexpected attachments or clicking on embedded links from untrusted sources, even when accessed locally. Deploy a SIEM rule that alerts on any mass UPDATE/DELETE operations performed during non-business hours or from unusual local source IPs.

Impact:

Successful exploitation leads to unauthorized, limited modification of financial data (insert, update, or delete) within the Hyperion Financial Management repository. This can distort reporting, corrupt budget forecasts, or alter critical consolidation figures, potentially causing erroneous business decisions. However, there is zero loss of confidential information, zero service downtime, and the attack does not propagate to adjacent systems. The tangible risk is confined to data integrity for a subset of tables, and the requirement for user interaction makes widespread automated attacks infeasible.
