CVE-2026-70921 is a critical vulnerability affecting the Security component of Oracle Hyperion Financial Management (HFM). The flaw exists in version 11.2.25.0.000 and allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access via TLS to fully compromise the application. The vulnerability is classified as “easily exploitable” due to its low attack complexity and the fact that no privileges or user interaction are required.
The root cause lies in a weakness within the Security component that fails to properly enforce authentication and authorization controls. This permits unauthorized actions against application data. The attack vector is network-based (AV:N), meaning an attacker only needs network connectivity to the vulnerable service over TLS. Importantly, the scope is changed (S:C), indicating that while the vulnerability originates in HFM, it can significantly impact additional products or components beyond the vulnerable one.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can result in severe consequences. An attacker can gain unauthorized creation, deletion, or modification access to critical data. Furthermore, they can achieve unauthorized access to critical data, leading to complete read access to all data accessible to Oracle Hyperion Financial Management. The vulnerability impacts both confidentiality and integrity (C:H/I:H) but does not affect availability (A:N).
Given the maximum CVSS v3.1 base score of 10.0 (Critical) and the ease of exploitation, this vulnerability poses a significant risk. It was disclosed by Oracle as part of its August 2026 Critical Security Patch Update. The combination of unauthenticated, network-based access and the potential for widespread data compromise makes this a high-priority issue for all organizations using the affected version of Oracle Hyperion Financial Management.

import socket import ssl Conceptual payload - DO NOT USE MALICIOUSLY def exploit_attempt(target_host, target_port): context = ssl.create_default_context() with socket.create_connection((target_host, target_port)) as sock: with context.wrap_socket(sock, server_hostname=target_host) as ssock: Crafted request to bypass authentication crafted_payload = b"UNAUTH_CMD\x00\x01\x02\x03" Example ssock.send(crafted_payload) response = ssock.recv(4096) print(response)
Protection:
- Apply the Patch Immediately: Apply the security patch for Oracle Hyperion Financial Management released in Oracle’s August 2026 Critical Security Patch Update.
- Restrict Network Access: Limit access to the HFM application to trusted internal networks or VPNs only. Remove any direct internet exposure of the service.
- Monitor for Anomalies: Monitor for anomalous, unauthenticated requests to the HFM application.
- Disable TLS (if not required): If TLS is not essential for your environment, consider disabling it to reduce the attack surface.
Impact:
- Data Breach: Complete unauthorized read access to all critical financial data accessible to HFM.
- Data Manipulation: Unauthorized creation, deletion, or modification of critical data.
- Lateral Movement: Potential for attackers to pivot and compromise additional products due to the scope change.
- Financial and Reputational Damage: Potential for financial fraud, regulatory penalties, and severe reputational damage.
