How the CVE Works
The vulnerability (CVE-2025-XXXXX) in OpenBao allows accounts with access to the highly-privileged identity entity system in the root namespace to escalate their privileges by directly modifying the rootpolicy. Normally, the `rootpolicy` can only be generated manually using unseal or recovery key shares, but this flaw permits unauthorized elevation. Attackers exploiting this can bypass namespace restrictions and gain full control over the system, as the `rootpolicy` grants unrestricted access.
