The CVE-2025-XXXXX vulnerability in Thinbus SRP JavaScript client (versions before 2.0.1) stems from a protocol compliance flaw where the client generates only 252 bits of entropy instead of the intended 2048 bits. According to RFC 5054 Section 2.5.4, the client’s public value must derive from a private value matching the bit length of the safe prime. Due to the insufficient entropy, the security margin is weakened, making brute-force attacks feasible. The server’s 2048-bit random number still contributes to session key generation, but the client’s weak entropy reduces overall cryptographic strength.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: JavaScript (npm)
Version: < 2.0.1
Vulnerability: Entropy weakness
Severity: Moderate
Date: Aug 5, 2025
Prediction: Patch expected by Aug 12, 2025
What Undercode Say:
npm audit --registry=https://registry.npmjs.org thinbus-srp
// Check installed version:
const thinbus = require('thinbus-srp');
console.log(thinbus.version);
How Exploit:
- Brute-force session keys
