How the CVE works:
The vulnerability exists in the NR modem’s signal processing stack due to improper input validation of RRC messages. When the modem receives crafted downlink signals, such as RRCConnectionReconfiguration with invalid parameters like out-of-bounds length fields or malformed payloads, it fails to sanitize these inputs. This causes buffer overflows or arithmetic exceptions in the baseband processor, leading to memory corruption. The modem’s firmware then triggers an unhandled hardware fault, resulting in a system crash and reboot. Attackers can exploit this remotely via a fake base station transmitting anomalous signaling messages, requiring no authentication. The crash denies all cellular services until manual reset, impacting connected devices.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: Unisoc NR Modem
Version: Not specified
Vulnerability: Improper input validation
Severity: Critical
Date: 12/01/2025
Prediction: Patch Q2 2026
What Undercode Say:
Analytics:
Bash commands:
`strings firmware.bin | grep -i rrc`
`logcat | grep modem crash`
`tcpdump -i any -w nr.pcap`
Code snippet:
from scapy.all import crafted_pkt = RadioTap()/Dot11()/Raw(load="\x00"500) sendp(crafted_pkt, iface="wlan0")
How Exploit:
Transmit malformed RRC messages via SDR fake base station, targeting connection setup procedures with invalid configuration fields to trigger crash.
Protection from this CVE
Apply vendor patches, implement signaling firewalls, monitor modem logs, isolate radio access.
Impact:
Remote denial of service, cellular connectivity loss, required manual reboot, network reliability compromise.
