The CVE-2025-54527 vulnerability in JetBrains YouTrack stems from inadequate sandbox attribute configuration for iframes used within the widget sandbox feature. In affected versions, the sandbox fails to properly restrict popup behaviors due to missing or misconfigured directives like ‘allow-popups’. This allows malicious iframes to execute JavaScript functions such as window.open(), enabling popups to escape the sandbox. Attackers can craft a widget containing a harmful iframe that, when loaded in YouTrack, bypasses security restrictions. This flaw permits unauthorized popups that may interact with the parent window or redirect users to malicious sites, leading to potential clickjacking, session hijacking, or cross-site request forgery. The vulnerability is present in specific versions before the patched releases, where the sandbox configuration was corrected to block popup escapes.
