The CVE-2025-51682 vulnerability in mJobtime 15.7.2 arises from implementing authorization controls exclusively on the client side. The application’s JavaScript code handles permission checks for accessing administrative features within the user’s browser. Since client-side code is inherently modifiable by end-users, an attacker can exploit this by using browser developer tools to inspect and alter the JavaScript. By locating functions or variables that gatekeep admin access, such as role flags or conditionals, the attacker can simply change their values to ‘true’ or remove checks entirely. This immediately grants UI-based access to administrative panels. More critically, the client-side code contains the API endpoints and parameters required to call administrative functions directly. An attacker can analyze network traffic or static JavaScript files to discover these endpoints. With this knowledge, they can craft HTTP requests—like POST or GET—directly to these server-side APIs, bypassing the UI altogether. The server fails to re-validate the user’s permissions for these requests, trusting the client’s manipulated state. Consequently, any authenticated user, or even an unauthenticated one if sessions are poorly managed, can perform administrative actions such as user management, data deletion, or configuration changes. This flaw represents a fundamental design failure by placing trust in the insecure client environment.
