How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-47994 exploits a deserialization flaw in Microsoft Office when processing maliciously crafted documents. Attackers embed harmful serialized objects within Office files (e.g., .docx, .xlsx). When opened, the application deserializes this untrusted data without proper validation, executing arbitrary code with the victim’s privileges. This occurs due to insecure .NET deserialization in Office’s document-parsing logic, enabling local privilege escalation or remote code execution (RCE) if paired with social engineering.
