Apache Commons FileUpload, Denial of Service (DoS), CVE-2023-24998 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

The CVE-2023-24998 vulnerability in Apache Commons FileUpload arises due to insufficient limits on multipart headers during file upload processing. Attackers can exploit this by sending crafted requests with excessively large headers or malformed multipart data, causing uncontrolled memory allocation. This leads to server resource exhaustion, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) condition. The flaw affects versions 1.0 to 1.5 and 2.0.0-M1 to 2.0.0-M3. The fix enforces strict size limits on headers and improves parsing logic to prevent resource exhaustion.
