How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-47998 is a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in Windows Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS). The flaw occurs when processing specially crafted network packets, leading to improper memory allocation. An attacker can exploit this by sending malicious data to an exposed RRAS instance, corrupting heap memory and potentially executing arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges. The vulnerability resides in the improper validation of packet sizes during remote connection handling, allowing an overflow that overwrites critical heap structures.
