How the mentioned CVE works:
The vulnerability exists in the itsourcecode COVID Tracking System version 1.0. It is a SQL injection flaw located in the administrative endpoint /admin/?page=state. The `ID` parameter passed to this page is not properly sanitized before being used in database queries. Attackers can remotely exploit this by sending crafted HTTP requests containing malicious SQL code within the ID parameter. This allows the execution of arbitrary SQL commands on the backend database. The lack of input validation and use of dynamic SQL without parameterized statements enables the injection. Exploits could involve techniques like union-based or error-based SQL injection to extract sensitive information such as user credentials or COVID tracking records. The public availability of the exploit increases the risk for unpatched systems exposed to the internet. The attack requires network access and low privileges, making it accessible to remote attackers.
