How the CVE works: The vulnerability is in D-Link DIR-822K and DWR-M920 routers with firmware version 1.00_20250513164613/1.1.50. It involves a buffer overflow in the formWanConfigSetup function via the /boafrm/formWanConfigSetup file. The “submit-url” argument is not properly validated for length. When a long string is passed, it overflows the buffer in memory. This can overwrite adjacent memory, including the return address on the stack. Attackers can craft a malicious HTTP POST request with an oversized submit-url parameter. The lack of bounds checking allows arbitrary code execution. Remote exploitation is possible without authentication. Publicly available exploit code simplifies attacks. The overflow may crash the service or execute shellcode. Compromise grants root privileges on the router. Devices exposed to the internet are at high risk. The vulnerability stems from insecure coding practices. Firmware does not sanitize input before processing. Attackers can pivot to internal networks. Denial-of-service is also achievable. Code execution enables persistent backdoors. The exploit leverages standard buffer overflow techniques. Memory corruption leads to control flow hijack. Successful attacks require network access. The vulnerability is critical due to remote nature.

// Example buffer overflow payload structure char exploit_payload[] = "submit-url=" + shellcode + padding + return_address;
How Exploit:
Craft HTTP POST request with long submit-url parameter to overflow buffer and execute shellcode remotely.
Protection from this CVE:
Update firmware immediately. Disable remote management. Use network segmentation.
Impact:
