PHPGurukul Hostel Management System, Cross-Site Scripting, CVE-2025-13577 (Medium)

Listen to this Post

The CVE-2025-13577 vulnerability is a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) flaw in PHPGurukul Hostel Management System version 2.1. The issue resides in the /register-complaint.php file, which fails to sanitize user-controlled input in the ‘cdetails’ parameter. When a complaint is registered, the value of ‘cdetails’ is directly embedded into the HTML output without proper encoding. An attacker can craft a malicious HTTP request containing JavaScript code within the ‘cdetails’ parameter. This request can be sent via a forged link or a manipulated form submission. When a victim, such as an administrator, views the page where the complaint details are displayed, the injected script executes in their browser context. This allows the attacker to steal session cookies, perform actions as the victim, or redirect to malicious sites. The attack is remotely exploitable and requires no authentication, leveraging the public complaint registration feature. The vulnerability is rated medium due to the need for user interaction and the potential impact on privileged accounts. Published exploits demonstrate the simplicity of the attack, increasing its risk.
