The vulnerability CVE-2024-39829 is a stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) flaw within the IBM Jazz Foundation reporting component. It arises due to improper neutralization of user-controllable input before the output is displayed in a web page. An attacker with low-privileged access can inject malicious JavaScript payloads into specific report fields. When an authenticated administrator or other user views the compromised report, the injected script executes automatically within their browser session. This execution occurs in the context of the victim’s session, allowing the attacker to steal session cookies, perform actions on behalf of the user, or deface the application interface. The vulnerability is stored, meaning the payload is permanently saved on the server, potentially impacting multiple users who view the tainted report.
