The CVE-2025-51733 is a Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) vulnerability specific to HCL Unica platform version 12.0.0. This vulnerability exists because the application does not implement adequate anti-CSRF tokens for state-changing requests. When an authenticated user visits a maliciously crafted web page, attacker-controlled code can automatically submit HTTP requests to the Unica application. These requests exploit the active session cookies stored in the user’s browser, fooling the application into treating them as legitimate user actions. The lack of a unique token validation mechanism means any sensitive action, such as configuration changes or data manipulation, can be triggered without user consent. Attackers can embed malicious scripts or forms in third-party sites that target Unica endpoints. Since the user’s browser sends authenticated requests, the Unica server executes them, leading to unauthorized modifications. The severity of the attack escalates with the privilege level of the targeted user; compromising an administrator account could result in full system compromise. This vulnerability is exploitable without direct access to the victim’s credentials, relying solely on the victim being logged into Unica and then browsing a malicious site. Mitigation requires the implementation of synchronizer token patterns or same-site cookie attributes to validate request origin.
