The vulnerability resides in the GrapesJS builder component of the Mautic marketing automation platform. This component provides a visual editor for creating emails and pages. The feature allowing users to upload media files (e.g., images) for use in their designs lacks proper server-side validation on the file type and content. An attacker with access to the builder (e.g., an editor-level user) can bypass the intended client-side restrictions and upload a file with a malicious extension, such as a `.php` or `.phtml` shell. The uploaded file is typically stored within the web-accessible `/media` directory. If this directory is not configured with the proper security restrictions (like php_admin_flag engine off), the web server will execute the malicious file when its URL is accessed, leading to remote code execution on the underlying server.
