IBM Db2, Denial of Service, CVE-2025-2534 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the mentioned CVE works:

CVE-2025-2534 is a vulnerability in IBM Db2 where a specifically and maliciously crafted SQL query can cause the database server to crash, leading to a complete denial of service. The flaw exists in the query processing component of the Db2 engine. When the server attempts to parse and execute this malformed query, it triggers an unhandled exception or a critical error condition. This causes the Db2 database service to terminate unexpectedly, making all databases on the instance unavailable until the service is manually restarted. The attack requires no authentication, allowing any unauthenticated user with network access to the Db2 port to send the malicious payload and disrupt services.
Platform: IBM Db2
Version: 11.1.0-11.1.4.7, 11.5.0-11.5.9, 12.1.0-12.1.3
Vulnerability: Denial of Service
Severity: Critical
date: 2025-11-07

Prediction: 2025-12-15

What Undercode Say:

nmap -p 50000 <target_ip>
echo "SELECT FROM sysibm.sysdummy1 WITH MALFORMED SYNTAX;" | db2cli execsql -connstring "DATABASE=SAMPLE;HOSTNAME=<target_ip>;PORT=50000;"
tail -f /home/db2inst1/sqllib/db2dump/DIAG0000/db2diag.log
db2 get dbm cfg | grep SVCENAME
db2start

How Exploit:

An attacker sends a specially crafted SQL query to the Db2 server’s port, typically 50000/TCP. The query contains a malformed clause or structure that the server’s parser cannot process correctly. This triggers a segmentation fault or an assertion failure within the Db2 engine process (db2sysc), causing it to abort. The server becomes unresponsive, requiring a database manager restart (db2stop/db2start) to recover.
