How the mentioned CVE works:
The vulnerability exists within the SSL/TLS implementation of the nimsh service on IBM AIX and VIOS. Due to improper process controls, the service does not adequately sanitize user-supplied inputs that are processed over an encrypted channel. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can craft a specially crafted SSL/TLS request containing malicious commands. The nimsh service, failing to properly validate or neutralize this input, passes the commands to the underlying operating system shell. This allows the attacker to execute arbitrary operating system commands with the privileges of the nimsh service process, typically leading to full root-level compromise of the AIX or VIOS system.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: IBM AIX, VIOS
Version: 7.2, 7.3, 3.1, 4.1
Vulnerability: Command Injection
Severity: Critical
date: 11/13/2025
Prediction: Patch by 12/15/2025
What Undercode Say:
`ps -ef | grep nimsh`
`lssrc -s nimsh`
`nmap -p 460 `
`echo “test payload” | openssl s_client -connect :460`
How Exploit:
Attacker sends a crafted SSL/TLS packet to port 460/tcp containing shell metacharacters to break out of the intended command and execute their own code, such as /usr/sbin/nimsh -c 'echo; /bin/id'.
Protection from this CVE:
Apply IBM security patch. Disable nimsh if unused. Restrict network access to port 460/tcp. Use firewall rules.
Impact:
Remote Code Execution. Full System Compromise. Root Privilege Escalation.
