How CVE-2025-21444 Works
The vulnerability occurs in EMAC (Ethernet Media Access Control) when processing network packets. During transmission queue handling, improper bounds checking allows memory corruption when copying packet data. Attackers can craft malicious Ethernet frames that overflow the transmission buffer, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution. The flaw stems from insufficient validation of packet length fields before memory operations. When oversized packets are processed, they overwrite adjacent memory structures in the kernel-space buffer. This corruption can crash the system or enable privilege escalation depending on memory layout.
