HAX CMS (NodeJS), Disabled Content Security Policy (CSP), CVE-2023-1234 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works

The vulnerability arises due to the explicit disabling of the Content Security Policy (CSP) in HAX CMS’s NodeJS version. The `app.js` file configures Helmet middleware with contentSecurityPolicy: false, removing protections against Cross-Site Scripting (XSS). Without CSP, malicious scripts can execute unchecked, allowing attackers to steal session tokens, manipulate DOM content, or redirect users to phishing sites if another XSS flaw exists. This misconfiguration leaves the application exposed to client-side attacks, particularly where user input is rendered unsanitized.
