This vulnerability exists within the compression and decompression module of the affected system. The core flaw is a lack of proper input validation when processing specially crafted archive files. When the module decompresses data, it does not adequately verify the consistency between the declared size of compressed data blocks and their actual size within the file. An attacker can exploit this by creating a malicious archive where this metadata is deliberately corrupted. During decompression, the module reads the forged size value and attempts to allocate a memory buffer based on this incorrect information. This leads to a buffer overflow or an out-of-bounds read/write condition. Consequently, the process may crash, corrupt adjacent memory, or allow for partial manipulation of the application’s internal data structures, compromising data integrity and potentially leading to denial-of-service or further exploitation.
Platform: Android
Version: Multiple
Vulnerability: Input verification bypass
Severity: Medium
date: 2025-12-08
Prediction: 2025-12-15
What Undercode Say:
$ file malicious.pak $ strings malicious.pak | head -20 $ binwalk -E malicious.pak
// Pseudo-code of flawed size check declared_size = read_uint32(archive_header); // Missing validation against actual file bounds decompression_buffer = malloc(declared_size); read(archive_fd, decompression_buffer, actual_file_data);
How Exploit:
Craft archive with corrupt size field. User opens file. Module allocates wrong buffer size. Memory corruption occurs.
Protection from this CVE:
Apply vendor patch. Disable automatic processing. Use updated library.
Impact:
App data integrity loss. Denial-of-service. Potential memory corruption.
