The CVE-2025-46261 vulnerability is a Stored (Persistent) Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the Seriously Simple Podcasting WordPress plugin. The vulnerability stems from improper neutralization of user-supplied input before it is stored and later output on a web page. Specifically, certain plugin fields, likely within the podcast management interface, fail to adequately sanitize or escape HTML/JavaScript code. An authenticated attacker, typically with contributor-level permissions or higher, can inject malicious scripts into these fields. This malicious payload is then permanently stored in the plugin’s database. Whenever the compromised page, such as one displaying the podcast settings or episode details, is loaded by an administrator or visitor, the injected script executes automatically in the victim’s browser. This execution occurs within the security context of the vulnerable WordPress site, allowing the attacker to steal session cookies, perform actions as the victim, deface the site, or redirect users to malicious domains.
