ZenTao, Server-Side Request Forgery, CVE-2025-13789 (Medium)

Listen to this Post

The vulnerability CVE-2025-13789 is a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) flaw in ZenTao versions up to 21.7.6-8564. It resides in the `makeRequest` function within the file module/ai/model.php. This function handles requests by taking a `Base` argument, which is intended to specify a target URL. However, insufficient input validation allows attackers to manipulate the `Base` parameter arbitrarily. By injecting crafted URLs, an attacker can force the vulnerable server to make unauthorized HTTP requests to internal or external systems. This manipulation occurs when user-controlled input is passed to the `Base` argument without proper sanitization or restriction. The function then uses this input to initiate server-side requests, effectively acting as a proxy. Attackers can exploit this remotely by sending a specially crafted request to the affected endpoint. The exploit could target internal network services, cloud metadata instances, or other restricted resources that the server can access. Public disclosure of the exploit facilitates attack replication, increasing risk. The core issue is the lack of validation on the `Base` parameter before executing network calls. This allows schemes like file://, `http://`, or `https://` to access sensitive local files or internal endpoints. The vulnerability leverages the server’s trust and network position to bypass security boundaries. Upgrading to version 21.7.6 addresses this by implementing robust input checks, likely through URL allowlisting or scheme restrictions.
