Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works

CVE-2025-48802 exploits improper certificate validation in Windows Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. An attacker with network access can spoof a trusted entity by presenting a maliciously crafted certificate during SMB session negotiation. The system fails to properly verify the certificate chain, allowing man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks, credential theft, or data interception. This vulnerability primarily affects SMBv3 when used with specific encryption configurations.
