How the CVE Works:
CVE-2025-48803 exploits a missing integrity check in Windows Virtualization-Based Security (VBS) Enclave. An authenticated attacker can manipulate enclave memory or processes due to insufficient validation, leading to local privilege escalation. The flaw arises when VBS fails to verify the integrity of certain secure enclave operations, allowing malicious code execution at higher privileges. Attackers may chain this with other vulnerabilities to bypass security boundaries enforced by VBS.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: Windows
Version: VBS-enabled builds
Vulnerability: Privilege escalation
Severity: Critical
Date: 07/08/2025
Prediction: Patch by 08/15/2025
What Undercode Say:
Analytics:
– `Get-VMEnclaveIntegrity -Check`
– `reg query HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VBS`
– `windbg -k net:port=5000,key=1.2.3.4`
Exploit:
- Crafted enclave memory injection
- Abuse VBS API calls (e.g.,
EnclaveCreate) - Token impersonation via enclave compromise
Protection from this CVE:
- Disable VBS if unused
- Apply Microsoft patch
- Enforce HVCI (Hypervisor-Protected Code Integrity)
Impact:
- SYSTEM-level access
- Bypass VBS isolation
- Kernel compromise
