How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-20227 affects Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud Platform, where Dashboard Studio dashboards fail to enforce proper role-based access controls (RBAC) for external content warnings. A low-privileged user without “admin” or “power” roles can bypass the modal dialog intended to warn about loading external resources. This occurs due to insufficient validation in the dashboard rendering logic, allowing unauthorized data exfiltration or unintended content loading. The vulnerability stems from improper session validation when processing embedded external URLs, enabling attackers to manipulate dashboard components and retrieve sensitive information.
