How the CVE works:
The CVE-2025-66060 vulnerability in the Seriously Simple Podcasting WordPress plugin stems from missing authorization checks in AJAX endpoint handlers. Versions up to 3.13.0 fail to validate user capabilities before executing sensitive functions. This allows authenticated users with minimal privileges, such as subscribers, to perform administrative actions. The plugin hooks functions to ‘wp_ajax_’ actions without verifying ‘current_user_can’ permissions. Attackers can craft POST requests to endpoints like ‘ssp_save_settings’ or ‘ssp_handle_upload’. These requests bypass access control security levels due to incorrect configuration. The vulnerability exploits the lack of capability checks, leading to unauthorized access. By manipulating parameters, attackers can modify podcast settings, upload episodes, or delete content. This flaw is classified as CWE-862: Missing Authorization. It affects all versions from n/a through 3.13.0. The issue is exploitable via direct HTTP requests to admin-ajax.php. Consequently, it compromises the integrity and confidentiality of podcast data. Multi-user WordPress sites are particularly at risk. Immediate patching is essential to prevent privilege escalation and data breaches.
