Parse Javascript SDK, Prototype Pollution, CVE-2025-XXXX (Moderate)

Listen to this Post

How the mentioned CVE works:

The vulnerability is a Prototype Pollution within the Parse Javascript SDK. Attackers can exploit certain functions like Parse.Object.fromJSON, Parse.Object.pin, and internal encode/decode methods by injecting a maliciously crafted payload. This payload contains special key names, such as __proto__.polluted, which, when processed by the vulnerable functions, are merged into the base Object prototype. This pollution of the prototype chain allows attackers to modify the behavior of all objects in the application, potentially altering application logic, bypassing security checks, or in severe cases, leading to remote code execution by manipulating attributes that influence code execution paths.
Platform: Parse JS SDK
Version: Pre-fix versions
Vulnerability: Prototype Pollution
Severity: Moderate

date: 2025-10-14

Prediction: Patch: 2025-10-21

What Undercode Say:

npm audit
// Proof of Concept Snippet
const maliciousPayload = JSON.parse('{"<strong>proto</strong>":{"isAdmin":true}}');
Parse.Object.fromJSON(maliciousPayload);
// Now every object has `isAdmin: true`
grep -r "fromJSON|.pin" src/

How Exploit:

Inject `__proto__` payload via `Parse.Object.fromJSON` or `.pin` methods to pollute the object prototype, potentially enabling Remote Code Execution.

Protection from this CVE:

Update Parse SDK immediately. Implement input sanitization for objects. Use `Object.create(null)` for safe objects.

Impact:

Arbitrary Code Execution, Security Bypass, Application Logic Manipulation.
