How the CVE Works
CVE-2023-22067 affects Oracle Java SE’s JSSE (Java Secure Socket Extension) component, specifically in TLS implementations. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this flaw via a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack to manipulate or partially read data transmitted over TLS. The vulnerability arises due to improper validation during TLS handshakes, allowing attackers to bypass some security checks. Successful exploitation requires network access and impacts only sandboxed Java applications (e.g., Java Web Start or applets). Server-side deployments running trusted code are unaffected.
