How the CVE Works:
The vulnerability in OpenBao’s Userpass and LDAP authentication systems allows attackers to bypass user lockout protections. The flaw stems from inconsistent alias handling between pre-flight and full login requests. During authentication, the system fails to properly track failed attempts due to mismatched user entity alias attributions. This enables brute-force attacks by evading lockout mechanisms that would otherwise block repeated failed logins.
