Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works

CVE-2025-23209 is a critical vulnerability in Craft CMS that allows remote code execution (RCE) under specific conditions. The flaw arises when an attacker gains access to the `/updater/restore-db` endpoint by exploiting improper input validation. By manipulating the `/storage/backups` folder, a malicious actor can craft a specially designed request to execute arbitrary CLI commands on the server. This bypasses security restrictions, leading to full system compromise if exploited successfully. The issue was patched in versions 4.16.3 and 5.8.4.
