How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-2449 is a directory traversal vulnerability in NI FlexLogger’s `usiReg` component, which improperly validates user-supplied paths in URI files. Attackers can craft malicious files or web pages that, when processed by FlexLogger, allow arbitrary file creation due to insufficient path sanitization. By exploiting this flaw, an attacker can write malicious files to sensitive system directories, leading to remote code execution (RCE) in the context of the current user. The vulnerability requires user interaction, such as opening a malicious file or visiting a compromised webpage. The lack of proper input validation in `usiReg` enables directory traversal sequences (../) to escape intended file paths.
