MongoDB Rust Driver, Certificate Validation Bypass, CVE-2025-11695 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE works: The vulnerability stems from a flaw in the TLS configuration parsing within the MongoDB Rust Driver. When a connection string includes the parameter ‘tlsInsecure=False’, the driver incorrectly interprets this boolean value. Instead of enabling certificate validation as intended, the code inverts the logic, treating ‘False’ as a command to disable all TLS certificate checks. This error likely occurs in the function that maps string options to the internal ‘tls::Options’ struct, where the ‘insecure’ field is wrongly set to true. Consequently, when applications specify tlsInsecure=False to enforce security, the driver silently skips validating server certificates. This allows man-in-the-middle attackers to present any certificate, including self-signed or malicious ones, without detection. The encrypted connection proceeds, but the identity of the server is not verified, compromising confidentiality and integrity. All versions prior to v3.2.5 contain this logic bug, enabling security bypass simply through a common connection string pattern.
