Liferay Portal & Liferay DXP, Denial of Service (DoS) via File Upload, CVE-2025-XXXX (Moderate)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works:

The vulnerability occurs when an attacker uploads a profile picture exceeding the 300KB limit in Liferay Portal (7.4.3.0–7.4.3.132) or Liferay DXP (2025.Q1.0–2025.Q1.8, 2024.Q4.0–2024.Q4.7, etc.). The system fails to enforce strict file size validation, allowing oversized uploads that consume excessive server resources. This leads to degraded performance or complete service unavailability due to resource exhaustion. The flaw stems from improper input sanitization in the file upload handler, permitting maliciously crafted large files to bypass intended restrictions.
