The CVE-2025-53033 vulnerability in Liferay Portal arises from improper access control within the Freemarker template engine. Authenticated users can craft specific requests that interact with vulnerable Freemarker templates. These templates, when rendered, fail to properly enforce scoped variable access restrictions. This allows the template processing engine to reach into and expose data objects containing sensitive user information that should be contextually restricted. The flaw enables an attacker to access and render confidential data, such as personally identifiable information, that belongs to other users within the portal system, leading to a direct information disclosure.
