iperf, Heap-based Buffer Overflow, CVE-2025-54349 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works

CVE-2025-54349 is an off-by-one error in `iperf_auth.c` in iperf versions before 3.19.1, leading to a heap-based buffer overflow. The flaw occurs during authentication handling, where improper bounds checking allows writing one byte beyond the allocated buffer. Attackers can exploit this by crafting malicious authentication packets, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution or a denial-of-service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability stems from incorrect length calculations when processing user-supplied input, corrupting heap metadata and enabling further exploitation.
