HFS (HTTP File Server), Cross-Site Tabnabbing, CVE-2023-3824 (Medium)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works

The vulnerability arises when HFS adds a web link without the `rel=”noopener noreferrer` attribute, allowing malicious pages opened via `target=”_blank”` to manipulate the original tab using window.opener. Attackers can redirect the HFS admin interface to a phishing page if a trusted linked site is later compromised. While modern browsers mitigate this, outdated browsers remain vulnerable.
