The CVE-2025-XXXXX vulnerability in Hashicorp Vault allows attackers to bypass the lockout feature for Userpass and LDAP authentication methods. The lockout mechanism is designed to prevent brute-force attacks by temporarily disabling accounts after multiple failed login attempts. However, due to improper validation, an attacker can circumvent this restriction by manipulating authentication requests, allowing repeated login attempts without triggering the lockout. This flaw affects Vault Community Edition versions >= 1.13.0 and < 1.20.1, as well as certain Enterprise versions. The issue was patched in Vault 1.20.1 and backported to older supported releases.
