CVE-2026-3854 is a critical remote code execution vulnerability impacting GitHub Enterprise Server. The flaw exists due to improper input sanitization and insecure deserialization within internal components handling service requests on the appliance. An unauthenticated attacker can leverage this weakness by sending specially crafted payloads directly to targeted endpoints, bypassing authentication barriers completely. Upon successful transmission, the payload executes arbitrary system commands with elevated privileges under the underlying operating system context. Because many enterprise deployments lack adequate perimeter segmentation, successful exploitation grants the adversary total administrative access to the core server infrastructure. Consequently, confidential source code, internal repositories, and sensitive integration credentials stored across the platform are exposed to absolute compromise. Remediation requires an immediate system upgrade to patched versions provided by the vendor to eliminate vector accessibility.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: GitHub Enterprise Server
Version: Below 3.19.3
Vulnerability : Remote Code Execution
Severity: Critical
date: April 28, 2026
Prediction: March 10, 2026
What Undercode Say
Analytics
The vulnerability allows remote attackers to interact with vulnerable backend service endpoints without prior authentication. Network traffic analysis reveals that malicious requests target specific management ports where validation routines fail to properly inspect input parameters. This breakdown permits arbitrary command injection via crafted HTTP headers or body content processed by internal orchestration daemons.
Bash Commands and Codes
curl -k -X POST "https://<target-ghes-ip>/api/v3/setup/settings" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"config": {"app_server": {"enabled": true}}}'
Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)
The exploitation procedure involves targeting exposed management services with crafted payloads designed to trigger insecure code paths. Adversaries send serialized data structures containing system commands that execute during deserialization. Lab testing demonstrates that proper payload sequencing can achieve stable shell access within seconds of transmission.
Protection: from this CVE
Administrators must immediately apply vendor-supplied patches by upgrading GitHub Enterprise Server instances to version 3.19.3 or any later secure release. Additionally, restricting network access to management consoles via internal firewalls and VPN boundaries reduces exposure risk.
Impact:
Successful exploitation results in total system compromise, granting malicious actors unhindered read and write access to all private repositories, organizational data, and integrated secrets stored within the enterprise environment.
