The CVE-2025-60024 vulnerability arises from improper pathname validation in Fortinet FortiVoice enterprise telephone systems. Affected versions include 7.2.0 through 7.2.2 and 7.0.0 through 7.0.7. A privileged attacker with authenticated access to the web interface can exploit this flaw. By crafting malicious HTTP or HTTPS requests, the attacker injects path traversal sequences like “../” into file operation parameters. The system fails to restrict these inputs to safe directories. This allows the attacker to write arbitrary files outside the intended restricted location. The vulnerability is present in multiple components handling file uploads or configuration changes. Exploitation requires sending specifically designed commands to vulnerable endpoints. The insufficient sanitization of user-supplied paths enables bypassing directory restrictions. This could target critical system files, such as configuration or script files. The attack can occur over both encrypted (HTTPS) and unencrypted (HTTP) channels. As a privileged attack, it may involve compromised admin accounts or insider threats. The core issue is classified under CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory. Fortinet’s advisory indicates multiple instances of this weakness. Successful exploitation may lead to remote code execution, system compromise, or data manipulation. The arbitrary file write capability escalates the severity to critical. Patches are required to correct the path validation logic. Until patched, network segmentation and access controls are recommended. Monitoring for anomalous file write attempts is also advised.
Platform: Fortinet FortiVoice
Version: 7.2.0-7.2.2,7.0.0-7.0.7
Vulnerability: Path Traversal
Severity: Critical
date: 12/09/2025
Prediction: Patch 2025-12-31
What Undercode Say:
Analytics:
curl -k "https://<target>/api/v2/cmdb/system/admin" | grep version find / -name "fortivoice" -type f 2>/dev/null strings /bin/webconfig | grep path
import requests
payload = {"file": "../../../etc/passwd"}
response = requests.post("https://<target>/upload", files=payload)
print(response.text)
How Exploit:
Authenticated attacker sends HTTP POST with traversal sequences in file parameter to write arbitrary files, potentially leading to remote code execution.
Protection from this CVE
Apply Fortinet security patches immediately. Restrict network access to FortiVoice administrative interfaces. Implement strict input validation for file operations.
Impact:
Arbitrary file write, system compromise, privilege escalation, data breach.
